Before the fires of "Joker War" stopped burning, Barbara Gordon was forced to face her greatest enemy yet, someone who can hurt her even worse than Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime. She was recently attacked in her home by the Joker, a statement to make her always feel unsafe anywhere. Joker hacked into the spinal implant that allowed her to walk, paralyzing her once again.

She survived the conflict with the Joker and woke in the hospital with her brother, James Gordon Jr., standing over her. Her father, James "Jim" Gordon Sr., arrived soon after and both men began to argue, each one paternalistically trying to help her. Barbara established clear boundaries and had the spinal implant fixed, returning immediately to her crimefighting. But as she patrols the city, a red-head was discovered murdered in an alley wearing a copy of her costume.
